Quotes from MM

Enjoy some nice photographs while reading some things Marilyn Monroe had to say:

No one ever told me I was pretty when I was a little girl.  All little girls should be told they're pretty, even if they aren't.

My arrival in school, with painted lips and darkened brows, started everybody buzzing.  Why I was a siren, I hadn't the faintest idea.  I didn't want to be kissed and I didn't dream of being seduced by a duke or a movie star.  The truth was that with all my lipstick and mascara and precocious curves, I was an unresponsive as a fossil.  But I seemed to affect people quite otherwise.

I used to think as I looked out on the Hollywood night-- there must be thousands of girls sitting alone like me, dreaming of becoming a movie star.  But I'm not going to worry about them.  I'm dreaming the hardest.

Well, my hair is new.  I used to be platinum but I dyed it.  Now I'm a subdued platinum.  Not as loud as the other.  My career is going to be different.  I'm going to broaden my scope.  You know, people have scope, you know, they really do.

What do I wear in bed?  Why, Chanel No. 5, of course.

They've said I want to direct pictures.   I couldn't direct traffic.

(On walking off the set of Some Like It Hot):  I'm not going back into that film until Wilder reshoots my opening,  When Marilyn Monroe comes into a room, nobody's going to be looking at Tony Curtis playing Joan Crawford.  They're going to be looking at Marilyn Monroe.

I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure.  I make mistakes, I'm out of control and at times hard to handle.  But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are.

I've never been in a Hollywood fight or a feud.  I have the most wonderful memory for forgetting things.

I'm a failure as a woman.  My men expect so much of me because of the image they've made of me and that I've made of myself as a sex symbol.  Men expect so much and I can't live up to it.  They expect bells toi ring and whistles to whistle but my anatomy is the same as any other woman's.  I can't live up to it.

Why haven't I the right to grow and expand like everyone else?

If you can make a woman laugh, you can make her do anything.

They think I'm crazy, but trust me, I'm 100% there.

Women who seek to be equal to a man lack ambition.
